The Marble Residence

Private villa interior — double-height living

Overview

A dramatic double-height living space in a private Dubai villa, designed around a sculptural book-matched marble feature wall. Strong architectural proportions meet warm walnut, bronze details, smoked glass and soft furniture forms — contemporary organic luxury, with the lighting carefully built into the joinery rather than added on top.

The Brief

Challenge, approach, outcome

01

The challenge

Book-matched marble at this scale ends arguments — nothing else in the room can compete with it, and everything tries. Around a slab this loud, most schemes either fight it with more pattern or drown it in beige. The brief also asked the same hall to host formal evenings and ordinary family afternoons without changing costume.

02

Our approach

The stone was given the whole height and everything else was told to speak quietly: walnut panelling in one continuous grain, a low tufted sofa that runs past the fire rather than facing it like an audience, and a ribbed rug that holds the seating island together. Colour enters only twice — the green velvet chairs and the cushions that echo them — so the eye moves in one loop: stone, fire, green, back to stone. The spiral chandelier draws the void without touching the slab.

03

The client’s goal

A villa living hall that photographs like a statement and lives like a family room — the stone is the event, the seating is the habit.
