Estimate a complete metal stud partition. Enter the wall size, stud centres, board dimensions and any openings, and the calculator returns plasterboard sheets, studs, track, screws and jointing compound.
How to use
- Enter the wall length and height.
- Set the stud centres — 400mm or 600mm.
- Enter your board dimensions. 2400 × 1200mm is the standard UK sheet.
- Deduct openings as a total area in square metres.
- Set wastage and the fixing rates, then read the materials list.
Notes
- Track runs along the floor and ceiling; studs run vertically between them. The figures cover both.
- Boarding both faces doubles the sheet, screw and compound quantities. Check whether the result is per face or per wall before ordering.
- Standard screw spacing is 300mm on board edges and 300mm in the field. Adjust the fixing rate if your specification differs.
- Fire-rated and acoustic partitions have prescribed build-ups. Never substitute board types on a rated wall without checking the tested system.
FAQs
How many plasterboard sheets do I need?
Divide the wall area by the area of one board — 2.88m² for a standard 2400 × 1200mm sheet — then add 10% for cuts. Remember to double it if you are boarding both faces.
What stud spacing for plasterboard?
600mm centres for standard 12.5mm board on a non-loadbearing partition. Drop to 400mm for heavier or double-layer boarding, tiled walls, or anywhere fixings need extra support.
How much jointing compound per sheet?
Roughly 1–1.5kg per square metre of board for a taped and jointed finish, depending on the number of coats and how flat the framing is.
